1995 won't start, fan runs as soon as ignition is turned on, engine cold.
The title says it as it is. I shut it off in the driveway, now it won't start and the fan instantly goes on even though the car has been off for days. Tried testing the cooling temp sensor, Put 10K load across wires no change. Temp gauge says cold. Fuel pump relay clicks. No spark. Anybody seen this before?
Thanks Nick |

Re: 1995 won't start, fan runs as soon as ignition is turned on, engine cold.
The Relays for Rad Fan-Air-Cond Clutch are in the C.C.R.R,M.My 96 Winstar had a Simular Problem,I bought One at Salvage cost 30 Dollars--Your Vehicle might Have Individual Relays if So? You only have to change that Relay
Location front of Eng;The Fan Relay May be in the Eng Power Box in Eng Compatment:There is One other Item; You have two temp sensers;1 is at Thermostat Housing,it feeds the TEmp Gage The other Temp Senser is located back side of eng; This one feeds the Computer and tells the Computer that need more cooling;this the kicks in the High Speed Fan;If this Senser was to Unpluged,You would have Continus High speed Fan; What You are Saying is the Relay has failed for the Fan;and stuck in Fan Mode; You have a Low Speed Fan when Eng Temp reaches Operating temp; You have High Speed Fan When ever You Select Air-Cond.This Fan is Moving more air When Air-Cond; Clutch Engages; |

Re: 1995 won't start, fan runs as soon as ignition is turned on, engine cold.
Thank You Ringo7:
At this point I won't be able to work on it for 12 days. I'm going out of town, was hoping to take this car but oh well. I was thinking there must be another temp sender somewhere but my book doesn't show it. I have a feeling that the computer thinks the engine is too hot and won't let it start. I will check the other sensor and wiring as soon as I get back. I will check for the fan relay also. Thanks again Nick |

Re: 1995 won't start, fan runs as soon as ignition is turned on, engine cold.
I tried to find the other sender and if I did it right it made no differance. I am trying to find the pcm now so that I can test for signals from the inputs to it and the outputs from it. Maybe I have a broken wire somewhere. But I can't seem to find the darn thing.
Thanks again for your help Ringo7 Nick |

Re: 1995 won't start, fan runs as soon as ignition is turned on, engine cold.
Ground ,ground, ground is very understandable but the problem I'm having is finding the components. I have not found any fan relay and the wiring diagram I have doesn't show one. I have not found the PCM either so it either doesn't look like any module that I have seen before or I am looking in the wrong place. If you know where it is please let me know.
Thank You Nick |

Re: 1995 won't start, fan runs as soon as ignition is turned on, engine cold.
Thank You - but I kept searching on line and found the location. It is behind the connector that mounts at the firewall. ( I would have never thunk it) I checked a number of wires, the ground included, all were good and it still doesn't start. I'm not sure where to go next. A different PCM? I have no spark, so it could be a different sensor but it bothers me that the fan goes on.
What a nightmare. Thank You Nick |
