96 Continental: Driver side mirror removal & replacement

The "Heated" driver's-side outboard mirror on my 1996 Linc' Cont' is FUBAR, for 1 rason or an other. It looks like a cracked/busted monochrome LCD... Like there's ink spilled on the inside, or something!
Anyway, I found one @ the yard o' junk but couldn't figure-out how to remove JUST the mirror so, I took the whole assembly, hoping I could (WITHOUT BREAKING IT) figure it out @ home. Well, I'm at home and I just can't see how to get the mirror out of the housing, gently. And, no... I can't simply put the new housing in place of the old one-- New is damaged and black, old is champagne(!)
Thoughts, ideas???

Re: 96 Continental: Driver side mirror removal & replacement

«1996 Continental Table of Contents»
«Group 01: BODY»
«Section 01-09: Mirrors, Rear View»
«REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»

Glass, Outside Mirror

Removal and Installation

1. Rotate mirror to maximum upward travel. Use cardboard or some other means to protect painted surface sides of mirror body.

2. Insert a flathead screwdriver between mirror shell and case on bottom edge approximately 25.4 mm (1 inch) from the inside corner (Pry Point A) as shown.

3. Apply downward force with screwdriver to bottom inside corner (Pry Point A) until snapping sound is heard and case is unlocked.

4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for Pry Point B if necessary to free the case entirely.

5. To install, reverse Removal procedure using hand pressure

And here's the whole section from the FSM ( 1996 FSM available on my web page) for that mirror:

You're Welcome

BTW, you can have that same FSM from my webpage, it's in ISO format from my original CD.
Follow my forum name to my webpage and it's all yours.
