i can no longer resist the allure of the civic. im looking to get a cheap one i can kinda buil on, but i need it to pull daily driver duty also. i ran across this ad on craigslist

"selling a 1988 honda civic hatchback. car would be good for someone with a stock car and wants a bunch of good parts. paperwork up to date. engine has alot of work done. has bulfrog head with mild cam. head is matchported to headers and intake mani. nice broad power band. jus rebuilt botom end with all new seals, new bearings, and new rings no oil leaks.has stainless headers with custom 2 1/2 in exhaust. exhaust is quiet but still sporty. has chipped ecu so rev limit is bumped up. aluminum radiator. sport suspension rides a little stiff but still a smooth ride. skunk2 coilovers on monroe struts. just replaced rear trailing arm bushings to poly. up front has new ball joints tie rod ends a and boots. need to replace the radius arm bushings cause there is a shimmy at about 65. has moda rims not sure wat model. the outside has the usual rust spots. jdm front head lights with crx front end. amber corners. jdm rear tail lights. windshield is cracked. car is primer gray.muffler looks stock so dosent attract attention. the interior features crx si seats in good condition no rips. integra center counsel. panasonic cd player with i pod cable. the seats has custom brackets i made to make the seats fit and also made them sit a little lower. shorts shifter with some ractive shift knob. clifford pager alarm with keyless entry"

Re: cant fight it

if it were stock 130,000mi is nothing. if there is one thing i have learned is people do not "build" up their stock stuff unless they are looking for horesepower. it was probably beat on. then again $900 is nothing.

i guess it depends on how mechanical you are and how mechanical you want to be

Re: cant fight it

so i got it for $850 without the subwoofer he had in it. the interior is in pretty good shape, the exterior is a nightmare. i'll have to paint it soon. rear tires look like drag slicks. front ones arent great. those'll have to get replaced. The motor, however is immaculate. new plugs, wires, distributor, plus all the stuff listed above. runs on premium due to the higher compression. it also needs alot of body work and has a few random parts missing. like the wiper switch.

my main question is: i found a guy in my area who's parting out an ef hatch. would the body panels fit? especially the hood. its in terrible shape. i thought that the body panels were the same from 88-91 but i could be wrong. i really need a new hood. also how about the wiper switch?

Re: cant fight it

it's a hard question to answer. the 88 & 89 are exactly the same and 90 & 91 are exactly the same. in general the 88-91 are the same but there are little difference.

the 88-91 has screw holes in the corner lights. i am running 90-91 on my 89 but i also had to switch over the fenders and you should switch over the headlight bezel...or prepare to modify.

you got an 88....what year is the car that is being parted out?

the 88-89 has the seatbelts mounted to the car. the 90-91 it's in the door. you can make the 88-89 work on the 90-91 but i've never bothered the other way around. too much trouble.
