98 Saturn SL2 - how do I reset alarm?

I have a 98 Saturn SL2. When I lock the car with the key fob and unlock with just a key, the alarm goes off. The alarm is supposed to stop after 15 secs when the ignition key is turned. Unfortunately, this doesn't work - the only way to silence the alarm and have the car start is to shut off the alarm with the key fob.

The dealer said the alarm needed to be reset by leaving the key in the 'on position' for at least 30 minutes.. I have this several times but it still doesn't work... any suggestions or does someone know the real way to reset the alarm?

Go and register here and ask your question in the S-Series tech forum. Actually, please try to search first. There are a lot more experts there. I know nothing about the alarms on 2nd gens.

The alarm can only be shut off with the fob, that is the normal way it works for a 98. some years are dif, some you can turn it off by turning the ignition on.

Re: 98 Saturn SL2 - how do I reset alarm?

My daughter's 98SL2 works that same way. Due to her four year old son fiddling with the fob, they had the alarms go off a few times. They and the neighbors were getting tired of it. She & her hubby decided to leave the car alarm 'unlocked', & the two fobs at home (with the batteries removed). They lock and unlock the doors just with the key.
