Question engine light comes on

Ok here is a stumper I have an 04 cavalier and only when I put the car in gear does my engine light come on.ran a code reader on it and came up clean with no codes go figure.when you put it in gear you here like a buz sound come from dash hard to explain but after this the light comes on.As long as the car sits and idles or even rev it up it can sit there till you burn a tank of gas and nothing(no light) but when you shift into gear the light comes on.no trouble codes at all.most complain when they get a code im the oppisite i wish it would give me a code lol.ANY IDEAS ON THIS PROBLEM!

ok my mistake its an 03 cavalier not an 04.my kia is the 04 lol.I tried to pull the pcm fuse in the fuse panel just for the crack of it to see if that would help and when i pull the fuse i here that same sound as when i shift into any gear its a clicking sound somwhere behind the fuse panel hope this is a help.the light that comes on is the engine light with a wrench.thanks just thought this might help solve it.

Try checking for codes with a scan tool, not a code reader. Code readers only read generic codes (unless your documentation says otherwise). Sounds like yours will be a transmission code, which will be manufacturer specific.

I think I might be on to somthine when I shift into gear there are no daytime running lights.Theres no codes at all and I think that the daytime drl might be gone but thanks .Anyone know where the DRL is located?

That's helpful info. Based on that, there's a good chance that there's a problem with the transaxle position sensor. I would bet money that there is a code, you just need real diagnostic equipment to get it. What are you using to check for codes? Lights don't just come on. For it to come on, there must be a command for it (and a resulting code), there are no "accidental" lights on an '03. All the lights are controlled directly by the IPC module, for one to come on, there must be a command for it. You're chasing your tail looking for the DRL module, not only is "that" most likely not your problem, but there is no DRL module.

What you need to do is find the code, if that means taking it to a shop, then do it. Then, get a repair manual that has the wiring diagrams you need.
