Intake manifold problems

Hey dudes, I'm dropping a used engine into my 2001 because the original 3400 V6 overheated. When torquing down the upper intake on the new engine, the flange closest to the belt tensioner broke cracked badly. I pulled the upper intake off the engine and the gasket under the flange was crushed paper thin. It was a fel pro gasket that had been purchased at reibes. Is this a common problem with these manifolds or gaskets? I'm apprehensive to go get one from pick and pull and then have it break on this gasket. Would ib be strong if I had it welded and machinced?

Re: Intake manifold problems

yeah sounds like you over torqued the bolts. Its pretty easy to do.
A good machine shop should be able to weld it and mill it back down. If not any upper/LI from a 99-05 3.4 should work.

Here are the updated torq specs..as of 2003.
