RH Door Window Dead

This just stopped working all of sudden. Left side works and it appears that they are off the same fuse, so I believe that is not the cause. What you think, dead motor? Is my next move to pop the door panel and check power to the motor?

Re: RH Door Window Dead

I seem to remember that each front power window is on its own fuse.
On my '96, the Left window is on fuse #34
The right power window is on fuse #40

The switches can go bad.....the motor can go bad......or, as in my case....the window can simply start to bind.....not travel smoothly...which leads to it becoming stuck.

If you should end up having to replace a window motor, I have pictures posted, in the pictures that the link in my signature takes you to.....that show the process.
You have to drill holes in the inner door to get to the bolts.

I also have had the window slide rails fall off......they are held by small spot welds.
A replacement side rail can be bought at your local FORD dealer.....not real expensive....not hard to replace.

Re: RH Door Window Dead

The only problem I've ever had with windows is with the switch assemblies in either door. The contacts get dirty and don't make good contact. Scraping the contacts with a small knife blade or filing them slightly with a nail clipper file seems to do the trick. If you happen to have a burnishing blade (common tool for cleaning relay contacts, maybe Radio Shack carries them?), that will work nicely. The switch assembly come apart fairly easily to provide access to the switch contacts. That reminds me.... I need to do that, again, on my '99 Windstar......

Re: RH Door Window Dead

My Hanes says they are both off the same fuse, so it's not that. Damn, going to have to go in and most likely replace the motor. This has been a complete pia on other vehicles I've done it to in the past and this thing has not proven to be diyer friendly so far (how about the brilliant oil filter location?).

Re: RH Door Window Dead

Well, I verified the switches on mine before I messed with the motor.
I have seen the switches on ebay.
They have the motors on rock auto, I would get one with the gears....easier to replace.

Re: RH Door Window Dead

The Driver's PW stopped working on my '99. Fuses, motor, and switches all checked out good.Turned out to be the glass was bound in the track. There are excellent detailed instructions found at this forum to guide you if this is your problem. The repair took me about an hour.

Re: RH Door Window Dead

With the panel off, I toggled the switch a few times. I could see that the motor jigged a bit each time, showed some resistance 1 ohm or so, and had power to it with the switch engaged. After messing with it for a few minutes, glass sprang free and now works fine. I think that over the years the upper door window gasket gradually compresses and the window travels up too much to the point where maybe the levers in the system can't develop leverage. I don't see how the window could jam, it is lined with felt all around. I had also attempted to grab it on both sides while operating the switch, did not work. Anyway, fixed and cost nothing.

Re: RH Door Window Dead

The trick on mine (right side window does same thing) is to hold the switch (on driver side) in the down position for a few seconds (maybe as many as 10) with some "moderate" force.... and not the usual "flick" gentle push. After a few seconds my window always opens. I think the passenger switch operates fine though so I think its my driver door switch for passenger window.
