Re: 94 cavalier stalls
The car was towed home and did run and idle for power steering & brakes. No check engine lite came on. Like I said, idles great, shift into any gear and stalls. Could the torque converter have a sensor or switch ??? DW

Re: 94 cavalier stalls
Does it jerk forward and die or just act like you turned the key off? Could be the TCC solenoid if it jerks and dies.

Re: 94 cavalier stalls
I was just in it and it starts in park and neutral, shift in ant direction, in like turning the key off. As it starts to fall in gear, shuts down. DW

Re: 94 cavalier stalls
Did some studying on the tcc, they claim you can unplug and test if it stays running. So I went on the drivers side, the side pan on the tranny, the plug is to the front of the car on top of the pan. Anyways unplugged, still stalls ???
Did I get the correct plug? Most people complain that the motor must get warm, then will not stall. This seems like tcc but ?? DW |

Re: 94 cavalier stalls
Usually what happens is the TCC solenoid sticks once it is applied at highway speeds, then the engine stalls when you come to a stop. Unplugging it will keep it from applying, but will not unstick it if it is stuck. If yours were stuck on, the car would jump forward or backward depending on 'D' or 'R', just like if you dropped the clutch on a M/T.
A bad wire is the most likely cause, probably where the harness flexes where it goes from the body to the engine. Try wiggling all the wires you can and see if you can get it to die doing that. Once you find the bad area, cut the harness open and check each wire. From what I've seen, usually the insulation gets old and cracks, which concentrates all the flexing on that one small spot and then the wire breaks from being bent back and forth. If the engine won't rev up to a few thousand RPM sitting still, it's possible there's a fuel problem. If it won't, check the fuel pressure.

Re: 94 cavalier stalls
I will check wires. When running it will rev-up, no problem.

Re: 94 cavalier stalls
what holds the tcc in place ? Trying too remove plug. Have cover off no problem. As the wires go down and replug into ??? not sure what that is called.
So the top plug is what gets replaced ?? seems like the other spot would be the tcc. Hope that makes since. The plug that is under air filter is what im told is the tcc, if so my question was how does it come out. Thanks DW |
