My 99 Grand AM GT has a vibration from the front right. It only does it over 70 mph and only while not accelerating. If I am giving it gas then it doesn't vibrate, it also does it more if turning to the right, if I am going straight or to the left a little it doesn't really do it. If I let off the gas while going into a slight right turn at 80 mph it is really bad.
Took it to the mechanic they assured me it was the tire although I was a little skeptical about this I had them change the tire, I can now assure you they were wrong. The car has like 79000 miles on it. |

Re: Vibration at high speeds
There are three possible issues here. First there is a good chance that the control arm bushings are bad and allowing the car to vibrate. This would be similar to a bad tire in presentation. The other issue may be a bad CV joint but the symptoms are not the same as you would usually see. If the mechanic checked it then I would look at the bushings. Finally the last thing would be a bad bearing but you should hear something while the car is in motion.

Re: Vibration at high speeds
I took it to the same mechanic as earlier(Midas), told them how the tire did not fix it. They told me it was a combination of the other 3 tires, the front pads and rotors, and the driver side inner and outer tie rod ends.
I said how do the three other tires effect only the passenger front, and if it breaking has no effect on the vibration then why would that be the problem, and how would the driver side tie rod ends effect the passenger side, then I told them to go to hell and I went and got my car. Then I took it to Goodyear and they told me that the front pads were worn but that the wouldn't be the problem and that the driver side outer tie rod end is a little loose but not too bad and that that was also not the problem, and that it could be the bearing but it would cost $100 to find out and another $250 to replace. So I changed the wheel bearing and the front pads and it still vibrates. Next weekend will have to be the driver side outer tie rod end but I am still very skeptical as to how this could cause a vibration from the right side. |

Re: Vibration at high speeds
If you are going to replace the tie rod end. I would replace both and it is not too hard to do, and that way the new tie rod ends will now have the grease fittings.

Re: Vibration at high speeds
I don't know what I am going to do, the more I read it seems like there is no way that the driver side tie rod end would cause a vibration from the passenger side at high speeds on deceleration only. A mechanic friend of mine mentioned checking the CV shaft, I looked at the boots today and they were in good condition, but it seems to make a little more sense to me since this seems to be related to speed, only happening over 65mph. I'm lost.
