2002 Explorer XLT A/C issue
hey all, i have an issue with the a/c on my explorer. the a/c blows cold but the vents in the dash keep closing then opening. the a/c is still cold because i can feel it at my feet when the split mode is selected so i don't think it is low on freon. it has me baffled, so before i tear into the blend motor......got any ideas. thanx......alex

Re: 2002 Explorer XLT A/C issue
Could have a vacuum leak at the motor or a bad check valve.

Re: 2002 Explorer XLT A/C issue
Does your Explorer have the manual (knob) HVAC controls or the electronic climate control?

Re: 2002 Explorer XLT A/C issue
Thanx Dave....right on target. The vac line was cracked, took a little investigating and some carb cleaner to find, replaced the line and a/c is good. thanx

Re: 2002 Explorer XLT A/C issue
Probably not a leak on a vacuum line. Could be the vacuum motor on the blend door is bad. You are getting defrost mode because something is wrong with the blend door. It goes to defrost by default whenever you have a problem with the HVAC for safety reasons.
