blacktop
i've recently been entertaining the idea of painting my roof panel gloss black. it think it would look pretty good. i'm not really a good photoshopper so i cant get a clear idea of how it would look, but im pretty sure it'd be an icy hot stunna. lol. but for reals what do you guys think?

Re: blacktop
The thing to remember about paint is that it's mostly about prep. Make sure you prep it well. I would sand it down some to scuff up the surface. Clean it up and use a tack cloth to pick up anything lingering on the surface. Then lay down an even coat of primer. Let that dry per the manufactures recommendations. Then lay down a coat of black. It will not be even, so don't expect it to be especially from a rattle can. You're going to want to lay down at least five coats. Let it dry in between coats. Then once you've got good even coverage lay down a couple of coats of clear coat. Now, I would use a couple of those bright halogen lamps, but not too close, to help the paint cure for about and hour, and it helps the clear even out for a smooth surface. Now, the paint will not fully harden for about 24 hours so be careful with it. It might feel dry but it is still malleable.
Also, try to keep the can about six inches from the surface at all times and do not ever stop in on place. Consistent, even sweeps are you friend. Don't forget to mask the rest of the car off. Last edited by Polygon; 07-05-2009 at 04:44 PM. |

Re: blacktop
i didn't mean there was anything wrong with an eagle talon, just that there should be something different between the two cars to a person unfamiliar to the 3k and eagle
