LSD with IFS?

Hey guys,

I posted a thread earlier today regarding gray oil. The differential shop (over the phone) is thinking it's the ball bearings going out. If I need to get a new differential what should I get? I've got a 2004 1500 quad cab, 4.7L v8 4wd. It has IFS. I was looking at the Detroit TruTrac. Will that blow my CV joints? I know a straight locker will, but I'm not sure about the trutrac. My offroad driving consists mostly of playing in the mud, and baja type driving.

Thanks in advance

Re: LSD with IFS?

From reading this thread and you other one you got water in the differential. Drain it and clean it out as best you can and check your diff vent hose. While you have the cover off to service it you might want to repair the bolt hole that is messed up.If you 4 whl in a lot of water you might want to extend the vent hose higher than what it is. Might also want to check the rear hose whil you are at it.

Thanks for the info. I don't know what it should look if it's got water in it. I know the rear which was changed at the same time is golden and clear. People keep telling me it'd be milky if it's got water in it, but no one's mentioned that it'd be gray. I think I'll still take it to a shop and have them fix the bolt and what not. I took it to one shop and they didn't do anything, but refused to acknowledge that they didn't fix it.
