I have a 03 Silverado 1500HD LT/QuadraSteer with a 6.0. I bought the truck in 04 with about 15000 miles on it, currently it has 50000. Just recently out of the blue, the airbag lite on the dash would come on, my Green OnStar lite would turn red, and my direction/temperature display would go out. The only thing I could find was the SIR (15A) fuse under the hood was blown. I replaced it and seemed to fix the problem, everything I mention that wasn't working started working again. Then out of the blue it would do it again, and again. In the past three months it has reoccured and I have had to replace the fuse. I would really like to dig into the problem and find the source. If anyone has a suggestion where to start I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: SIR fuse problem!!
Thanks for the input... I have a clean carfax on it, I bought it at a GM auction (the guy at the auction even toldme that the previous owner was a GM executive somewhere), and I've never wrecked it?!?? It just started doing this about three months ago that's what is so weird?! I have done a few aftermarket things to it...ie. Suspension and bodylift, wheel and tire kit, and stereo/DVD. All of theses items have been on the truck for several years. The stereo/DVD items where professonally installed and are the only thing I can think of that could possibly be causing the fuse to blow unless there is a more serious problem?? I even even called GM customer service and checked if there where any recalls... Nothing!

with other circuits I have repaired these shorts...I have seen shorts that leave an extremely small pin hole in the wire insulation, causing fuses to blow...very hard to see... since a radio was installed I would look carefully in the radio wiring area....sometimes the steel supports have sharp edges as well as weld tits that can damage the wire coating.. to have this repaired at a dealership may cost over 1000.oo... GM customer service is a useless hand job filter.... |

Re: SIR fuse problem!!
I am going to start with the stereo and if I can't find anything I will proceed to the manual and start tracing wires affecting SIR... I'm hoping like u said maybe the stereo housing has rubbed something or maybe the installer did something??? With it being intermittent that's what's sucks. Thanks again for the info. I'll let you know if I find anything.

take your time, use a magnifier with good light ... you will need a good view of the full wire diameter.. I would even use a loom covering to put around the harness if you see it runs near metal,,,also a couple of rolls of electrical tape.. |

And it could cost less than 100.00 to have it fixed at the dealer.... The fuse you are talking about powers just a few things, inside rv mirror, SDM, Pass presence module and the disable switch on the dash. If the fuse is blowing, you have a high current draw on the yellow wire that feeds all of these (most likely, that wire is chaffed to ground. Since the problem is intermittant, you are going to have to start looking for the damaged wire. I would check around the radio (since it is aftermarket) and also under the carpet where the wiring harness runs

best thing for that option is to talk to the sm, most likely he will give you an amount he will not go over, an hour or two probably. on the other hand, sounds like you know circuits and stuff, so why in the world pay someone to do something as simple as trace wires? Time consuming job yes, hard? no...
