Power steering pump removal

My GMC Sierra K1500 Z71 5.7l V8 4x4's power steering pump went out on me. I have removed the fan shroud, serp. belt, pulley, and the 3 mounting bolts. But the old pump still won't drop out. Is there something else keeping the pump in place? Does the tank need to come off first? I haven't disconnected the hoses yet, I figured they will be easier to take off once the pump is freed from the mount, and they are flexable enough that they shouldn't be keeping the pump in place. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Power steering pump removal

you need to remove the pulley from the pump , you can get a cheap removal/installation tool from your locale parts store. good luck

Re: Power steering pump removal

I did have the pulley off already, what my Haynes manual failed to mention was the mounting bracket on the backside of the resevoir that connects to the engine that you can only get to by removing the skid plate under the engine!! Once I found that it didnt take long.
