Remove pinon shaft hold in bolt/pin and slide out pinon shaft pin.

Thanks for posting back how it went.
Yes good light and good eyeballs help.
Check the axel shaft bearing erase and bearing when you when you have it out.
Some times bad bearing or axel makes seals leak .
Good Luck

Question Re: rear axle seal

I have a 2000 Jimmy 4WD SLE that recently started leaking gear oil from where the axle attaches to the rear wheel. It started shaking when driving and then I noticed the oil. I took the tire off and can move the wheel housing up and down about a quarter of an inch. I am a "weekend" mechanic and would love any advice on replacing the bearings, seals and axle shaft that anyone can offer. Or should I just take it to a proffesional? Thanks! Rick

It is best to start your own New Thread on yours.
Shahing may be more than a axel bearing.
What kind of shah and at at what MPH?
If you want to DIY it get some good repair info.
To remove the axel you need to remove rear end inspectopn plate and pull axel shaft hold in clip off end of axel.
After axel is out inspect the axel shaft erase where the axel bearing runs on it.
It may have cut the axel erase to.
If so the axel bearing and axel shat itself will need replacing.
Or if the make a axel saver axel bearing it can be used and axel saved.

Good idea to check other sidw to when it is torn down.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

For more info or help start a New thread on it.
