Re: Intervals For Rear Brake Replacement?
When there worn out! If there riveted before they get to the rivets. If there bonded than somewhere between a 1/16 and an 1/8 inch is when I start recommending them.

Re: Intervals For Rear Brake Replacement?
As Airjer said... there's no secret formula or schedule! It all depends on your driving style and conditions. City driving usually means a short brake components life so you'll have to change them sooner.
Visual inspections regularly is the best preventive maintenance when it comes to brakes.

Re: Intervals For Rear Brake Replacement?
I agree. I remove the rear drums for a look-see-cleaning-lubricating-adjusting everytime the front pads are replaced.

Re: Intervals For Rear Brake Replacement?
Rear drum brakes tend to last a lot longer than the front disk brakes.....most of the work is done by the front brakes.
When doing the rear brakes, I would recommend buying a drum brake hardware kit. This will make the job easier and will be more reliable......only costs a couple of dollars. Here is a link to the first in a series of pictures of a rear brake job on my '96. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1402...11220610MUaUIA

Re: Intervals For Rear Brake Replacement?
Brakes have always been the one thing that gets the least attn....even though it should be near the top cause it's a safety system.
It's sched'ed to go to the mech next week for a brake job. Forgot about the drum brake kit. I'll bring those along with a good set of drum shoes. Thanks for the input guys. |
