P0440 Evap system problem

Hello all, this is my first post, I'll try to give you all available information.

So, I have a 2001 cavalier. 2.2

The check engine light came on and the code it spit was P0440.

From what I have read this could be anything in the evap system ranging from a poor seal on the gas cap to the exaust system.

I have replaced the gas cap with no luck.

I am also getting very loud hellicopter like sounds, especially when accelerating from stop. Do you think that this is at all related?

Re: P0440 Evap system problem

P0440, take a quick look for broken EVAP hoses. If you don't see any, take it to a shop that has a diagnostic smoke machine. You're not going to find it without one.

For the noise, quite possibly the exhaust flex joint has partially broken and is making an exhaust leak. Check for a broken motor mount, too much engine flexing will break them.

The two could be related if an evap line is also broken where it flexes.

Re: P0440 Evap system problem

EVAP problems are a mo fuggin beeotch. My sunfire gets a P0445 during the winter then goes away in the summer. EVAP leak large... no idea where it is, nor do I care until it prevents me from passing inspection because it doesn't really hurt the car.
