Rear Window Not Working
Please help, I am completely a newbie with all electrical wiring and have been meening to get myself into it as it can be very rewarding but also very frustrating. I find myself in the later as of right now.
My 89 4Runner rear window is not working at all. The motor for it has been replaced fairly recently (even giving a new key just for the door) and I have had the truck a few years with absolutely no problem with the switch either at the door or the middle console. I put the window down took the cap off and laid bed liner in the back and up on the sides where the cap bolts down. Got the cap back on and the window was a bit sticky going up but after a couple of attempts it went up smooth as butter (as usual). Now however all I am getting is a "tick" at the little box behind the driver seat. Box seems in good shape wires don't seem broken but the window does not budge. Just "tick, tick tick" First thing was check the ground bolt on the driver side back, unscrewed it and cleaned it really well with degreaser to get the paint out of the hole, if any, put it back down and still "tick". Should I clean all of them? Would the bed liner on the top part effect any of that? Inside the door all looks good too but will start a more thorough check today. IS there a fuse anywhere that I should check? What is the round fuse looking thing behind the driver seat where the little box is? Can anyone shoot me a wiring diagram that a 2 year old could follow as I am a bit out of my league here. I am going to replace the ground wire at my battery today to see if that helps as it is a bit short, and been worked a little bit so new won't hurt or be too costly. I guess electrics is one thing just ruled out after the other, hence I don't want to pay some mechanic 100$ an hour to search something he/she is maybe not soo familiar with. Thanks |

Go here http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...arWindow.shtml
I have a 91 4runner. I did # 5. That was 3 years ago. I've had no problems since. Takes a little bit of soldering know how. I replaced 2 relays. Good luck, Mike |

Re: Rear Window Not Working
I use solder wick for desoldering. It's cheaper and ,I think, easier to use. It is available at Radio Shack also.

Re: Rear Window Not Working
Hey Guys thanks very much for the support. I did find my problem in the end. It was a bad wire on the sensor plug inside the door, it got pinned down by the window frame and was pinched. I put a new wire on, greased my track and teeth for it and off to the races once again. Smooth as butter.
Thanks again the links were great. |

Re: Rear Window Not Working
Glad the problem was simpler than the relays!
