blower motor resistor

I bought a blower motor resistor for my 2001 chev silverado 1500 half ton due to the first 2 speeds not working. I bought it from checker auto. this was the one for my truck acording to there book. when i took out the old one the mounting plate was the same and the plug that goes into the blower is the same . the old one has a circuit board. the new one has actual resistors on it. my question is is that ok. is there different types for the truck. i put it in and it works but want to make sure its ok. i called checker and they said it should be ok.

thanks in advance

Re: blower motor resistor

Actual resistors is fine for your use, so long as the resistors mount inside the air duct, so they get good airflow. This is required to cool the resistors.

The resistor design is probably cheaper to produce, which is why they sell it.

If it ever stops working in the future, it's probably the thermal fuse that has let go, and not the entire resistor pack. The thermal fuse sits next to the resistors itself; new ones are usually available at Radio Shack.

Re: blower motor resistor

I had the same problem with my 2001... I purchased the first one from Advance Auto and he guaranteed it to be the right one and I got the one you said. I returned it figuring it wouldn't fit and I ordered the correct one from www.rockauto.com They have the one that you will actually find in your Silverado!!

Re: blower motor resistor

I replaced with one like you described too and have had no issues in 3 years. make sure you change your cabin air filter as well.

Right next to the resistor. You'll notice the fresh air.
