Fix or Junk?

My 93 Metro is still going strong but with 240,000 miles it will sson be in need of work. The clutch is original so it will need changing as well as a re-ring and head job.

Is it worth putting all that work in the old girl or should I send her to a final resting place? Rebuilding the engine is no problem but I do not have a place to get the transmission out to replace the clutch so most likely I would have for fork out $$$$ for the clutch job.

What do you all think?

Re: Fix or Junk?

if you have a floor jack and basic hand tools you have most of what you need to remove the transmission. or you could rent a engine hoist and pull them both out at the same time, rebuild the engine, put on the new clutch and rent it again and put them back in when they are ready. if bosy is decent its probably worth doing, if not you can still probably get more money selling it to someone on craigslist that has the parts to fix it, as gas prices go up so to the metro prices

Re: Fix or Junk?

1. My 93 Metro is still going strong...

Rejoiceth thou ! If t'ain't broke, whyfor fixeth it ?

2. with 240,000 miles it will soon be in need of work.

"soon" ? - maybe not for years ! Run it until you have a problem !
You might be able to drive it several more years w/o any problem...

3. The clutch is original so it will need changing as well as a re-ring and head job.

Look in the Indexus Metrogloditus for links to doing all of the things you listed.

I did my engine on a dirt driveway.

You don't get bad winters in Tennessee, do you ?

4. Is it worth putting all that work in the old girl or should I send her to a final resting place?

Do you have a high level of disposable income ? Since you are driving a Metro,
I will assume not.

Yes - it is worth fixing "the old girl" - in spades !

Our greatest leader ever, THE President would like gasoline to go up to $4 or $5 per gallon
so that people will buy hybrid cars and stop using oil.

Thus, gasoline may go up to asstronomical prices and the administration will be happy as clams...

I really don't understand why "the Pres" isn't screaming to have Geo Metro's made again!
Man...We don't need no stinkin' hybrids!

5. Rebuilding the engine is no problem

Then taking the Transmission out and rebuilding the Clutch should be no problem either.

Again, see or search the links here for working on the clutch...

Why not convert your Metro engine to run on "hot air" from Washington, DC ?
We could pipe it out from the House and Senate to all the 57 States mentioned during the campaign.
Unlimited supply !

6. What do you all think?

About what ? I forgot what we were talking about.

Re: Fix or Junk?

If the frame is still good where the control arms bolt up, then rustproof the living sh&t out of this area so it stays intact, & just about ANYTHING else you have to repair is worth it. Engine rebuild & clutch is no problem if you have a Metro with a good frame....Keep that puppy on the road & good luck.
