Porsche Carrera GT (lights & opened)

Well I've finally managed to get round to finishing this off. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, with a few places where I know I could improve on. But at least that's a good excuse to buy another kit .

It's the best quality Tamiya kit I've built so far, even if a bit pricey, but it's also my most ambitious build to date. Thanks to all those who checked out my WIP thread (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=951905) and gave me such motivation and encouragement.

Tamiya Porsche Carrera GT
SMS Carbon Decals 1020
Body Colour: Alclad Pale Gold -> Tamiya Clear Red -> Halfords Clear Lacquer
CM Metallic Mesh Hexagon (B)
MFH 1/20 Seat Belt Set
Fibre optic strands & LED's + 2 lithium coin cell batteries

Sorry for the image quality, I took these photos quickly this morning.

Door don't sit very flush

Outdoor pics:

I'm still undecided about if I like it spoiler up...

...or down...

Unfortunately some of the fibres show through when lit up, so I think I'll have to go back and paint over them in black.

Lights are wired pretty badly...I've forgotten my electronics lessons so I've ended up with lights in parallel with no resistors. Consequently, the lights dim after a few seconds which is a shame, but at least they won't be on all the time. I had an idea of putting it in a diorama base that could hold more power, but I wouldn't know how.

Thanks again for looking. Please do leave your C&C's.

Nice built and very nice colour on it. Love the lights!! Have some ideas of my own to include some in one of my GT1 racers...

Re: Porsche Carrera GT (lights & opened)

Very nice model!
And the light are a great touch.

PS: It's a pity you can see the light through the rear wheel wells. maybe you can do something about that too.

Re: Porsche Carrera GT (lights & opened)

Hey thanks guys,

kingkai - I'd love to see what you've got planned. I'll be on the look-out for your future build. I love GT1 cars but they look quite daunting to build.

jano11 -
Thanks for your feedback . The fibres have been painted over in flat black and it has reduced the fall-out quite a bit but unfortunately a small amount still shines through. Maybe it just needs a few more coats of paint...?

TRBJ - Thanks dude. This project has taught me many new lessons and I'm glad the result isn't too flawed. It's definitely my best build to date and I love seeing it in my display cabinet. Colour came out just how I wanted it. Interior pics below...

da_ashman - Thank you. I think I'm finally getting the hang of painting and polishing

Unfortunately the rear-mirror sticker didn't stick too well so it fell off somewhere...lol

Came out sweet. Any engine shots? Also thanks for sharing the optic fiber progress, will try it out in the future. Cf work looks nice also.

PS Wing down looks better.

Nice work! http://led.linear1.org/1led.wiz might help with figuring out how to wire things correctly--it's a single and multiple LED calculator.

Re: Porsche Carrera GT (lights & opened)

MidMazer - Cheers! I was surprised to find no-one else really working with fibre optics (with the exception of blackf40), but then it seems to me that adding lights to a model is quite rare on these forums. Hope I've inspired others to experiment with it . Best engine shots are in the WIP thread as it's all kinda covered up by the chassis now.

joelwideqvist -
Thanks. I've always admired your bike builds so thanks for your compliment.

Lownslow, blwnrtr93
- I agree with you guys; with the spoiler down it has a nice, sleek look to it.

R11Furia, blackf40 - Thanks guys. I'll definitely have to redeem my efforts on this build with a better choice of body where the fibre optics won't be as exposed. Or I might do a 2nd lit up Carrera sometime when my sanity next goes walkabout. Thanks for the link blackf40.

xpeed - Thank you. I'm just waiting for more progress on your Nissans

Re: Porsche Carrera GT (lights & opened)

that came out great man, love the fiber optic idea for the tailights, way to be innovative

i am working on a set of rear lights as well, but mine are only on a tamiya supra which 4 large LED's, not nearly as much work as your model, but it is my very first to make up for that fact

what kind of leds did you use for the front?? i have some white ones that im going to be doing for mine, but yours look like they have a bluish tint to them? almost like they are 6-7k HIDs , looks cool!
