First build. 98' Raybrig NSX

hi, i would just like to show my first of hopefully many models to come. its nothing great like most of the models on here but since it was my first i wasn't expecting anything spectacular since most of the time i had no idea what i was doing.
biggest annoyance/problem were the decals u can see in the pics, most of them are cracked and ripped, especially the tire decals.
another was the paint...i dont think i put enough layers since while polishing i rubbed through high points and corners showing the primer

i hope u guys can give me alot criticism and advice!!

It's pretty good for first time! The only thing I could in general is apply a clear coat next time to hide all the decal prints.

+1 on the clear coat. Really good for a first model, way better than mine!

Nice looking first model. Also what you can try is cutting the decals where the decal goes over multiple panels. Once decal is dry cut with a brand new blade along the panel line. Then use a really hot semi-et cloth and press down on the cut decals to make them conform. Or you can take the easy way out and use microsol.

thanx for the comments. i did use clear coat(tamiya) but just mists and 1 wet i guess cuz i was scared it would ruin the decals. should i have sanded it down more? i stopped once i saw that i ran through the paint in some areas

I've always wanted to build this kit but those decals look like a nightmare. Excellent work tackling such a hard kit for a first project.

Well done for the firs model. I would advise to paint lights glassing sides all round with black for rubber effect and to visually minimize the depth of glassing.

All the best,
Sergey

Re: First build. 98' Raybrig NSX

I was curious how this was coming along. Not bad at all, my first glue together kit was painted with a paint brush and looked...well, interesting would be a kind description.

The decal for the tires are a bit tricky to get used to. One alternative is when you get a newer Tamiya car kit, buy Tamiya's photo etch set for that car and keep the metal tire mask it will come with and you can just paint the tire markings on.

As for the paint and clear...practice makes perfect, keep on building! One thing to try while polishing, run a thin strip of tape along the top of the edges so you don't polish there, where the paint is thinnest.
