2ohms from mono amp to dvc sub?
I appolagize for asking this because im sure its been asked before and the answer is somewhere on here i just dont know what to search. I have a mono D amp ( kenwood kac-x10d). i have an alpine dual voice coil sub ( SWR-1042 ). i want to hook it up at a 2ohm load. i know with 1 output to 2 speakers a paralell wiring to two 4ohm speakers would be a 2ohm load. what confuses me is the mono amp doesnt have 1 + and 1 - output. there are two of each ( dont understand how thats mono). to get a 20hm load what do i do? wire 1 pair of outputs to one coil and the other 2 to the other? sorry for asking a simple question that im sure has been asked, but im just thrown off by the 2 sets of outputs on the mono amp. thanks for any help.

Re: 2ohms from mono amp to dvc sub?
many bass amps have two sets of outputs, the two +'s are the same and the two -'s are the same inside the amp. You basically have 2 choices for wiring the sub up but the easiest way is to wire up one side of the sub to a + and - on the amp and wire up the other side of the sub to the remaining + and - on the amp.

Re: 2ohms from mono amp to dvc sub?
thanks for the fast reply. that will give the amp a 2ohm load?

Re: 2ohms from mono amp to dvc sub?
also, the amp puts out 400watts at 2ohms. the sub handles 500 watts total, 250 per coil. wired that way i assume the 400 watts gets divided by 2, giving each coil 200 watts?

Re: 2ohms from mono amp to dvc sub?
that is correct, in a parallel circiut the voltage potential stays the same accross the split but the current divides proportionately with the resistance. Since the two resistances (voices coils) are the same value they split the current (and so the power) equally between them.

Re: 2ohms from mono amp to dvc sub?
thanks for the help. as a side question, is it a bad idea to mount the amp to the sub box?

Re: 2ohms from mono amp to dvc sub?
not really, as long as the box is built sturdy it won't vibrate anymore than anywhere else in the trunk or hatch. Only problem is, a thief gets a 2 for 1 if they break into the car for a quick grab.
