help..any would be great

I bought this car a week and a half ago roughly and today after some driving i started smelling gas.. a strong odor.. then when i got back in it after being off for about 45 mins 1/4 tank had leaked out, figuring it was 5 and no garage would be open i thought if i could make it home and call a place tomorrow i would be ok, but in about 3 miles another 1/4 had came out of it, and so i stopped so i wouldnt get blown up and left it, it looks like the leak is coming from close to the engine and closer to the driver side -
i hope that makes sense its a 1999 buick regal, is this a common thing, what does it sound like?? besides the obvious leak answer
thanks

I'm moving this to the Buick Regal forum. There you have a better chance of getting a faster answer and there are a lot of knowledgeable members who frequent that forum.

Question Re: help..any would be great

You obviously have a fuel leak somewhere . Perhaps the fuel lines or a fuel regulator has ruptured ? This could be a very dangerous situation ! You should let a professional handle this repair and be safe !

Right a pro is the way if you feel uneasy about it. You can carefully check the fuel rail connection in the engine compartment. Check the area around it for gas (start the car for a few seconds) then check (Wear safety glasses if you look while it is running). As quick as your dumping gas it should be very evident. If none there then begin tracing the line back to the filter and check those connections. The gas could be travelling down the line or part of the body and dripping in a different place than the leak. The line could have been hit by something and cracked/split.
