Alternator interchangeability
91 DX
Can I swap in a Civic alternator? What years? Is there a site somewhere that says "You need a Frommizt 24Y; and by the way, it's also used in 88-2005 Civic 2 door, 4 door and hatchbacks.." |

Re: Alternator interchangeability
Back from Crazy Ray's....
Found that V6's [Accords, I think] have bigger shape alternators that look to be interchangeable -- same connector, both patterns match, same pulley offset. Big concern would be getting larger OD through the wheel-well obstacle course. We passed on that one and took a clean-looking rebuild. After reminding me about what a PITA they are to get it in/out; it has bad diodes. GR^%*&%&S. You can tell because a) it will not deliver enough output under load to keep the voltage stable b) If you tune in an AM station, you hear the WHINNNNEEEEEE... Today I picked up a 2nd replacement; at $15 each, I can swap parts in the event it's FUBAR, too... But I almost bought the 80+amp unit instead; it was tempting....
