Ide Speed Controller Reading On Service Engine Light

I have a 1998 Windstar and the light came on. I had the code read and it indicated an issue with the idle speed control but I didn't get the exact code. Does anyone know what possible problems this could indicate? Thanks.

It maybe your idle air control valve.. You can first try to clean it.. If that does not work replace it with a motorcraft one..

Thanks for the reply. Is the Idle Air Control Valve a separate part from the Idle Speed Controller or the Idle Speed Control Actuator?

Re: Ide Speed Controller Reading On Service Engine Light

Hello-

Yes - the idle speed control is a seperate unit. The general symptom of this problem is the inability of the engine to idle. It will start - but unless you have a foot on the gas pedal - it will stall out. You may want to get the exact code before you just start replacing parts.

Good Luck
Glenn
