1995 Cutlass weird hard start

Firstly, thanks for any help you folks can give me on this.

1995 Olds Cutlass Supreme SL

3.1 ltr.

This car for the most part runs and starts good, how ever, if parked in direct sun for an hour or more, it will crank and start but stalls right away. It takes 20 plus attempts before the car will stay running.

If parked in the shade, there are no issues. Could this be a bad crank sensor, or ign module? If so, where are they located?

Thanks again.

Re: 1995 Cutlass weird hard start

Welcome to AF !

I truly dont see how the sunlight could effect the starting or not.

Sounds like a lack of fuel issue.

I'd check the fuel pressure. And it wouldnt hurt to replace the fuel filter if its not been replaced in the last 15-20k miles.

The crank sensor is located behind the crank pulley on the oil pan/block area.
If you mean the ignition control module - ICM , its under the coils.

Hope that helps

I don't have an answer, but I do have a thought. Being parked in the sun makes me think of elevated interior temperatures causing "something" to fail that is located in the interior. Ignition switch module maybe. Have you tried to leave a window(s) open to see if you can isolate the problem and go from there. You don't mention a problem in stop and start driving, just after it has heat soaked in the sun, so I would not be looking under the hood considering the elevated temps there when the engine is hot.

Just guessing
