I'm looking at maybe getting a 2000-2003 Eclipse GT/GTS

Any tips or advice? Should I stay away from them altogether? I've heard some bad things about them but have only driven one once, and I liked it. My civic was totalled recently and I'm in the market for a car around $8k, and the eclipse seems to fall in that range without sacrificing too much or facing too many problems, but I don't know a lot about them. Does it seem reasonable to find one in good condition with fairly low miles (50-70k) for that price? Or am I just facing a world of problems?

Not really, I do like to drive pretty damn fast though. Might do upgrades later on like IHE, but nothing serious.
