Possible tranny problem?

I have a 2000 v6 auto mustang. Last night, while driving, my car stop moving. It was in Drive the whole time and it just stopped moving. So I turned off the engine and turned it back on, the car started fine, I put it in Drive and for about 3 seconds it moved, then it just stopped moving and the rpm's went down to zero. The gas peddle is unresponsive, it doesn't even rev up or anything. It keeps doing that, it will move for a few seconds and then "die off", the battery light and the "service engine soon" light comes on. Any ideas? I put a Transgo Shift Kit in it a few yrs. back, maybe that may have something to do with it. I really don't have the slightest idea what may be wrong with it. Any help with be appreciated, thanks.

Stupid question, but have you checked the tranny fluid for proper level. Your car may have a disabling function that keeps the motor from running if the tranny fluid level is low. This could be a feature that keeps the tranny from being harmed. Other than that, I am at a loss for words. I know that on some GM cars the fuel pump will shut off if the engine loses oil pressure. Maybe, there is something similar to that on your Mustang, except it is tranny pressure lost and not engine oil pressure.

Hey, thanks for the reply! Right after I wrote out what was wrong, I did check the tranny fluid and man, that thing was dirty brown in color! I feel like a fool for not checking it sooner. So what could have been a mole hill just grew into a mountain. I just hope nothing was damaged too bad! I'm hoping it is some sort of kill-switch to let me know to change the fluid and possible the tranny filter as well. Thanks again for the help!
