01 Grand Prix GT front Axle Nut torque

Hello,

I've been thru the posts and I've found a few different answers for the torque used on the axle nut. I'm replacing the HUB Bearing on a 2001 Grand Prix GT.

Can anyone give me any info on this?

Thanks

Weber

01 was a changeover year. If you bought an aftermarket hub and it has a torque spec in the box, follow that as they sometimes require a different torque than factory spec. If there is no torque spec in the box, you need to look at the ABS wiring connector and see if it has a stainless steel (1st design) or plastic clip (2nd design) that holds it on the bracket, as each design uses a different factory torque spec.

1st design w/stainless clip- 118 ft/lbs
2nd design w/plastic clip- 151 ft/lbs

Make sure you check inside the box. Sometimes bearing manufacturers will request a different torque spec for there bearing.

If I remember right the BCA hub I used requested a torque spec right around 130 ft lbs, but dont quote me on that.
