well i changed the motor and put a 160 temp hypertech stat in it dont work it gets hotter than the stat and stays open it dont over heat it goes up to about 3 1/4 what is the problem does the motor just get that hot i took out stat still ran the same put stock back in 180 temp stat and it stays lower temp than the low temp stat the motor i put in came from a 96 just block and heads every thing else is off the 95 any help would be good thanks

your vehicle could be corroded internally....what is the dexcool/distilled water ratio ????

many in warm climates save money on coolant because it never freezes,,,,then they pay hundreds to repair the damge created by lack of proper coolant ..


the other area is the fans,,,,do you have electric or the heavy duty cooling with the typical fan clutch...

then there is the lack of coolant system pressure, this will cause the coolant to boil,,,,when this occurs the water pump stops pumping...

You cannot run an LT1 without a thermostat. Coolant will recirculate through the heads and block and never reach the radiator. That is why there is a two-tier thermostat installed.

i found the problem coolant steam pipe was pluged i un pluged it and now it works fine thanks

this will be temporary at best,,,,your coolant system needs a complete cleaning agent and drain the entire engine with the removal of the knock sensors to purge the gunk out of the system...then blow out the heater core..

acid cleaner then baking soda for neutralizatrion of the internals..
I bet the recovery tank is loaded with black goop....

sorry i just rebuilt this hole motor every thing it is super clean inside and out the coolant steam pipe was blocked by sealent from the new water pump it was stuck at the back of the heads inside the bolts both of them had crap in them and the line to just small chunks

is this silicone sealant you are refering to...????
the water pump gaskets use a gasket sealer that is like a heavy oil...I use permatex formagasket on these...

on some vehicles you need to use a thick type sealer,,,this is where more is not better....

I replaced a radiator plastic end tank and found a big chunk blocking the coolant tube in the radiator...

using the 180 deg thermostat is recommended,,,the pcm is programed for this temp....

since you live in a warm area it is possible this would not be a factor..

where I live it has caused problems when the cold weather arrives,,,,

IMO 160 stats are overdone but work fine, the pcm is perfectly capable of handling it too even without reprogramming. Those that think otherwise are stuck a few decades in the past.

From my EXPERIANCE a 160 stat will provide adequate heat to teens below zero.

I install the WP gaskets dry BUT you still need to use some sort of sealer on the bolts and even used sparingly I have seen this make it's way to the banjo bolts in the back of the heads. All it takes is little crumbs from the old sealer or even a small flke of gasket falling into the coolant passages while cleaning the block. The holes are quite small.

you are probably correct...it has been a decade since these engines were produced....when new,,,, many had problems with the engine running too cold with the 160.. ...

now that the decade old coolant systems are lined with corrosion/restrictions , a 160deg T stat in a warm climate is a good idea...
