Help me ID this VW Bus Pickup Truck

Can anybody name the exact year and model designation of this VW Bus Pickup? did they have a special name like the other variants did (Kombi, etc)?

Looks like a regular cab to me. The sliding door window is tricky. Try this one:

The Samba Gallery has everything you need to teach you about VW years models.

Hope this helps!

Not sure why you say a 56. Spend some time searching the gallery for the different year models. It is pretty certainly a 55 - 67 - the split windshield provides the upper limit. From my limited research it appears that a split bumper was used at least until 59. But the mirrors are a little tricky. Lots of round mirrors those early years. Ovals in 60. These are teardropped, which may be even later. The problem is I don't know these well enough, and without a serious restoration, there could be a lot of mix and match. So best I think you can say is 60 to 67. But you could do better if you spent some time on it.

That's a much better picture! It's a single cab. Production of the Transporter started in 1949, but i believe they where year 1950 marked. Could be wrong, but i think i'm pretty close. Nice thread to start!

Re: Help me ID this VW Bus Pickup Truck

hi, that's my truck. it is a 1961 vw single cab pickup. check out www.dropgates.com to find out about year changes to be able to identify in the future. the elephant ear mirrors were period correct for the usa i believe. i've debated switching to the round mirrors but don't want to spend the money. it is a blast to drive. you get positive attention wherever you go. not the kind of attention you get in a fancy sports car, more the kind you'd get if you rode through times square on an elephant.
