96 protege overheating
I have a 96 protege with 175000 miles. The temp gauge has started going up. The check engine light is on. I suspect the cooling fan is not turning on.
Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: 96 protege overheating
You're probably right. Beware of OEM fan motors, they do not fit directly. If you go to anyone but a dealer for the fan motor, be prepared to do a little bit of modification. My recommendation is to buy an entire shroud with fan on ebay for ~ $35-40.
If the temp get's hot when sitting at a light or in town driving then drops when doing 55+ the fan is almost certainly the problem. It can be the switch, but it's not very likely. I connected a 12v supply directly to my fan to test it. |
