Hard 1st to 2nd Shift

On my 2000 5.3 ext. cab 4WD my tranny just started the hard shifting from 1st to 2nd, it did it before almost three years ago, then I installed the TransGo Shift kit and it has been fine for about 62,000 miles until now. Any thoughts ?
I'm at 186,000 miles now.

Re: Hard 1st to 2nd Shift

since you had this work done how many times did you drop the pan and replace the trans filter/fluid ???

this problem is from the line pressure being commanded by the computer to maximum because of a slippage detection...

drop pan replace filter and then flush out the remaining fluid,,,use only the new dexronVI,,,not dexron III....the transmission takes 11qts on a rebuild..5qts for the pan drop....

cross fingers...

I changed the fluid and filter once since installing the shift kit.

Personally, I change tranny fluid ever 25K.

How many miles since the last change? Fluid level is good? Good color? Does it have a burnt smell to it?

Re: Hard 1st to 2nd Shift

Well it's shifting fine now, last week I changed my oil/filter and air filter, when I took out the old air filter I also took off the housing to clean the inside. Ever since that day I got a SES light and it started the hard 1 to 2 shift. Took it today to read the codes, turned out to be the MAF sensor, me in my bright moment forgot to reconnect the MAF sensor plug, so anyway....cleared the code and now it shifts just fine. I can't for the life of me understand how the MAF sensor would cause the hard shift ? Anyone ?

you should of explained this when you asked about the hard up shifting....also give us the DTC....

the engine would not run properly with the MAF not reporting the air intake to engine,,,not running very smooth or with power I would guess..

Re: Hard 1st to 2nd Shift

I guess I should have mentioned that. On another note...does anyone know what size socket I need to take the front wheel hub off ?

rental from most parts stores. i bought mine from local tire shop for 10 bucks. you can just pop the cap off it, drive to any close by tire shop, ask them to loosen it for you enough to drive back. much easier than bending wheel studs with prybar, trying to prevent hub from spinning.

I when removing the NUT have the vehicle on the ground. then when it is loose jack up and begin disassembly..
