99 Park Ave parking brake stuck on
99 Park Ave got parking brake stuck on
Just got vehicle and was testing parking brake for certification. Handbook says to apply it first step on regular brakes then push on parking brake lever with left foot. To disengage it push on normal brakes then push on parking brake with left foot and the parking brake lever is to follow the left foot up and release the parking brake. My parking brake stays down Anybody know if this is an electrical issue or just a stuck cable I was going to get some ideas before I dive in with prybars |

Re: 99 Park Ave parking brake stuck on
I am fairly certain that parking / emergency brakes aren't electrical, as emrgencies could include lack of electricity. However, I am also certain that my 99 Park Aveune Ultra parking brake is purely mechanical from having used it for so long. It should click like a ratchet when you press on it to engage. To disengage, you press again and it should follow your foot back up using a spring. Eventually, the cable stretches and needs tightened before it will go down like a ratchet again unless you manually lift it until it clicks after disengaging. My guess is that you are looking at an extreme case of this (or the spring is shot/gone maybe), so you should be able to press on it to release (it has to give to release, as it has to come off of whatever is keeping it down, so depending on how tight it is, you may have to press down fairly hard) and it should come up when being pulled on with virtually no effort. If it is stuck, I would suggest trying to find out why before simply trying to force it back up.
