Re: 2002 ford explorer brake control plug for trailer
I'm now finding myself in the same boat. I have a 2004 Mountaineer and we just bought a pop up camper with trailer brakes. The service manual suggests that connector C239, which is supposed to be gray in body color, will be hanging near the center instrument cluster support to the right of the accelerator pedal. I've looked all over under the dash for a 6-terminal gray connector not plugged in to anything and don't find one. Maybe I need to remove the knee trim piece? My wife says we need to go camping this weekend so I'm running out of time to get a brake controller installed.

Found it! It was taped up behind the glove box to another wiring harness. I soldered the Ford harness adapter to the brake controller, snaked the controller harness behind the center dash vents, plugged it in and all seems to work.
