My story and my questions

What's up peoples!

I've actually been a member on here for some time and used to frequent the Cavi section. I'm back now because of a new (to me) car. So here's my quick story:

A Geo Metro 3 cyl feel into my lap for about $200 this fall. Stable engine and tranny but the car looks like s***. I replaced some bearings and regreased and rebooted the axles and it was good to go. Since my family's falling on hard times right now two weeks ago I sold my '91 Cavi (which I've poored my heart into) and decided to make the Metro my primary car to save money. Even my wife pleaded for my not to because she knew I loved the car but a man has to do what they have to do for their loved ones.

So now the story gets funny and their's proof in karma/God... Whatever you believe in...

I sold the Cavi on Friday, come Wednesday someone I used to ride with posts up a thread on our local bike forum entitled "Free Car!". I jump on it before even reading too far into it. It's a '95 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L automatic. I didn't even know the color until I went to tow it home (white). The previous owner saw it as a girl's car and hated it. He claimed a cylinder was backfiring and got started removing the head and ended up cutting himself up bad . Shortly after his wife just told him to get rid of it and they'd buy another.

Well, after looking under the hood I realized that it's the EXACT SAME 2.2L that the '91 Cavalier had! I have MUCH experience with this engine! So now it sits in my driveway. The body and interior is in MUCH better shape than the cavi I just sold. I see much in our future together God literally handed me a car to replace the sacrifice I made. I'm giddy.

So anyways, enough story telling. I plan on removing the head and geting the remains of the sparkplug that the previous owner broke off out. I honestly think that the plug was bad and wasn't firing and that was the root of his original problem. I won't know for sure until I'm in there. I have the metro so I have the time.

I also plan on replacing the rods and rockers. They have a large amount of cooked oil on them. He's been hard on the car, I can tell. They're not scored or bent, but no amount of cleaner could get all the crap off of the two I worked on last night. He actually admitted that wanted the engine to blow so he could get a better car, little did he know that the GM engine of that type is pretty bullet proof.

So wish me luck. Now here's my questions:

I searched this area for any mention of better rockers and I heard members mention of "ratio Rockers" that don't require computer changes and too much extra work. Where can one find these? I googled it but got lost in the vast returns

When I did my head gasket swap on my cavi there was a great amount of "cooked junk" on the cylinders. I'm going to assume that this car will be the same from the look of the rods. Is there anything I can do about that? The cavi still ran smooth afterward but I can't help but think that cleaning the cylinders would help.

Thanks all!
