Cutting out windows into separate pieces
When you cut out the windows into separate pieces and attach them to the body individually, what do you use to cut and sand? Because I decided to go that route to avoid the ugly gap for the back glass, and it take FOREVER to cut the clear part and it takes a very long time for me to file it into shape. It drives me nuts when there's no progress after I file it with a pretty rough file for 5 minutes.
A few pointers would be more than helpful. Thanks!

Take your time, don't cut corners or you might be sorry at the end.

Re: Cutting out windows into separate pieces
Use p/e saws from Hasegawa, Crazy Modeler etc for the cutting. They make teh cleanest cuts you can possibly want.
Nail files and polishing sticks will bring the edges to perfection.

Thanks jano, I did take my time. It took me 2 hours to get the backglass to near perfect.

Re: Cutting out windows into separate pieces
Thanks Kluts, I have the Crazy Modeler saw set B. It does make a nice clean cut. It just takes really long because the "glass" is 1mm thick. I cut the piece about 5mm bigger than the actual window size, and it takes forever to sand/file it down to the size of the window. However, I did find a way last night to make the process go a bit faster. I used an edge of a pair of scissors to shave off the extra part. It was a lot faster than filing. =]

Re: Cutting out windows into separate pieces
You can cut closer than that to the actual window size, 2mm is more than enough for not ruining the part.

Re: Cutting out windows into separate pieces
Also what really works good or so i hear are those saws that cut foam. They get hot, up to a certain tempature and basically melt it. I've seen people on this board to that before, that creates the best edge. But i would test it out first.
Pe saws would be a good bet like stated before. |
