86 Mercury Capri

3.8L V6. The engine cranks over but will not start. No spark. What would i look for. Just got the car.
Thnks in advance

Okay, have the car running, changed the modulator on the distributor and good 2 go. The problem now is the timing is off with the crank and the distributor. It falls on its face if you floor it. Im not sure exactly how to time it properly. At the moment its timed a 0 degrees (tdc) with the rotor at the number 1 cylinder mark. Also the distributor has to be turned all the way to the right to run (almost touching rad hoses).
Any advice or response would be greatly appreciated.
thnks
