TV cable adjustment procedure?

Ok Guys the next question, what is the procedure to adjust the TV cable? I have the adjustment procedure for my 91 Lincoln Town Car, just wondering if it's the same. That Bastard who traded me this car didn't bother to tell me about the shifting problem. It shifts fine manually, but not it you leave it in OD. Good thing I know that you can adjust the TV cable.

Re: TV cable adjustment procedure?

Are you sure the grommet is in place on the throttle linkage? If it is a FI engine, the adjustment shouls be similar to the Town Car.

Re: TV cable adjustment procedure?

Yes that grommet is exactly what the problem is. I found a rubber grommet in my stash of junk and installed an e clip to hold it in place. That seems a bit shakey to me, but a good temp. fix. I'll take out on the road today and see what it does. Is this supposed to be a hard plastic grommet, where the cable end just snaps into place with no clip? I think that is how it is on my Town Car.

Re: TV cable adjustment procedure?

I just took it out for a drive, and it did well. Shifts up and down fine in overdrive. I put it in OD and didn't touch the selector. Drove it down the mountain hoped on I 64 for a mile, got off at the next exit. It pulled great back up the mountain in town and then back up peastick hill with no hesitation. If the trans. was going to slip it would have done so, Those two hills are some serious grades to pull. I just won't know how much damage was done until I pull the pan and see how much clutch material is in the bottom. If any one has a picture of that brass bushing for the tv cable let me know. I am thinking I could make something on the lathe if I can see what it looks like. Thanks Guys

I lost my grommet also. The ford dealer sells them, but I just bought a pack of grommets at the parts store and used one the fit it.

Re: TV cable adjustment procedure?

I ended up getting a bronze bushing off one of my non runners. I looked for some more like it at lowes, they had nothing. I looked at auto zone, nothing there either. Where did you get that pack of them?

Re: TV cable adjustment procedure?

Bought them at NAPA. Came in a box of around 20 or so different sizes.

Re: TV cable adjustment procedure?

Cool. Next time I'm in town, I'll have to stop at NAPA and stock up. Thanks
