01 Jetta TDI stuck in park

My 2001 Jetta TDI gets stuck in park sometimes. It will eventually go into reverse or drive but it takes several tries. I have replaced the park light sensor but that didn't fix it.
Any ideas?

If we are talking about just putting your car into gear at the shifter, I believe you need a shift indicator assembly. It's a pricey part so i would go to a transmission shop and get their opinion before purchase. They should not charge you for this.

The N4 recall is free to have done. Its the brake light switch. This will also keep the vehicle from coming out of park. Which is the reason they made it a recall.
