2006 Grand Caravan Power door won't close

I have a 2006 Grand caravan. Recently the passanger side power door is acting up. It will open just fine, but it will close most of the way and stop. You have to pull it shut the rest of the way. If you push it to where it latches the motor will pull the back p[art of the door shut.

Please help, I am just out of warranty on this so I would rather not take it in.

Re: 2006 Grand Caravan Power door won't close

Funny we just had one in the shop tonight with exactly the same problem. It would always stop in the same spot and not move forward or back until it was moved a couple of inches either way.

What we found is that if you backprobe the black wire with the red tracer on the connector thats on the door and monitor voltage while the door is closing the voltage would drop from 12 volts to 1 volt in the spot it stopped at. It would stay at 1 volts until you moved it a couple of inches either way. We also fount that when the voltage dropped to about a volt that is we wiggled the harness where it goes from the plastic track to the door the voltage would come back. We confirmerd that 12 volts should be there all the time by checking the same wire on the other door. It had 12 volts the entire time the door was closing.

The harness looks relatively easy to replace. There is a main connector behind the B-pillar trim pannel and a connector on the door. A couple of plastic clips and its out.

Hope that helps.

The door snake, as i call it, is a common cause for door problems on the power doors. The wires do alot of bending and moving and they can break and cause problems. The most common complaint being that the door opens part way and quits and/or closes part way and quits. Ive changed a lot of these in the mini-vans rangeing in different years.

Its not dificult at all to change it. You wont have to take the B-pillar completly off. Just pop the bottom of it lose so you can reach in and unplug the connector for it. The other connector is on the sliding door itself. The easiest way for me to explain how to do it is just follow the harness and remove what is needed. Ive never been real good on explaining verbally. Its all pretty straight foward to do. You'll need a phillips screw driver, possibly a stright screwdriver and something to pull a few push pins. Hope this helps.
