Getting a few more horses out of my 4.3

I'm entering in a street class at the local track's next race, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on pulling a little more power out without spending a lot of money...

I'm replacing spark plugs and spark plug cables, getting a K&N High Flow air filter, and I had a less restrictive glasspack put on with an exhaust dump, which took about 18 inches off the tail pipe.

Is there anything else I can do without blowing my next paycheck?

Year, make, model, and transmission would help. First, make sure the engine is tuned up and the intake/throttle body is clean. You're in the right track with fresh plugs, wires, cap/rotor. If your truck is burning oil or missing, get it fixed first...same for running lean or rich, look at the plugs to help diagnose what's going on in each cylingder and bank. I will recommend an external oil and transmission cooler.

In general, spend small bucks, you get small gains. More significant upgrades ($200-400 each) would be an intake manifold, headers, high-flow cat (or bypass) and cat-cak system, CAI, higher-flow injectors, cam/lifters, or roller rockers. I'd start with the easier stuff first...intake & exhaust. Just remember if you have to keep it street-legal. And to be frank, unless you really want to keep it stock, a $2000 engine swap would yield better output and future potential as there's SOOOO much more available for a V8 than the V6

Good luck & have fun!
