Air Conditioning

I have a 2003 Dodge Caravan that the air conditioning works very little.
The fan is still blowing but very little cooling.
Last year it seemed to be fine.
What do I look at.
Thanks

Re: Air Conditioning

Welcome aboard. Look at the A/C compressor clutch and see if it engages. The compressor is on the passenger side of the engine compartment. The clutch is on the inside of the pulley attached to the compressor. Look at it while someone turns on the A/C. It should suck in and start spinning. If it doesn't spin, it's a pretty good bet you have a leak in the system and you're low on refrigerant. The clutch won't engage if the refrigerant is low to prevent the compressor from destroying itself. You'll have to have it reserviced and have a dye put in the system to help find the leak. If it does spin, you may have a blockage somewhere in the system or a bad valve or again the refrigerant is low but, not enough to keep the clutch from engaging.

Check the A/C compressor clutch fuse in the IPM (fuse box) next to the battery if the clutch won't engage.

Re: Air Conditioning

I have read normal low side pressure at 80 deg F ambiant temp should be 30-40 PSI. As ambiant temp rises that pressure will rise.
