Af Model Car Meet (america)

I don't like to re post this, so whoevers a moderator can delete the other one! Anyways, as that thread ended where this one will begin.

I would like to set a date for a AF model meet up.

This is what i think we will need in order for the plan to follow through:

-sufficent members from AF, and encouragement of other towns people
-A minimum entry fee
-A place to do it at

I know the big question here, is why would people travel hundreds of miles, and how! well, I know my mom wouldn't let me go thousands of miles away, to meet people i talk to over the internet.

anways, theres a place near me, called the DOME CENTER, and they have many shows and sales... maybe they would host it...

any people intereset in this idea, no matter where it is....

good idea or bad?

That thread didn't end... Why delete it?

Did you look in the link I posted for shows near you? That'd be a great place to try and meet-up w/ other AF model folks... I know at least half a dozen of us will be at Tamiya/Con in two weeks...

An entry fee for a group of people to meet and talk about putty and wheels? Are you kidding me?

Half you guys aren't even 18, so this is a disaster waiting to happen. Kids don't plan meetings over the internet.

Thumbs down This Thread is Pathetic...

If you want a Modeler meet, post it as such. A HUGE meeting of thousands of Plastic car modelers.... UNLESS sponsored by some big whigs with big cash allowances or Prizes for a contest, or a general " WONDERFEST" of modeling fun, can all be lumped into local " hobby shops and vendor meets at community centers and "train shows". Ther is toy Car and Model expos all over the place. Pick up a "Toy Shop News" magazine at the news stand, and look for "swap meets" or "shows"... try to plan a AF plastic car society meet around it.

REGIONAL meets are far more successfull than NATIONAL......

Being 26 yrz old myself, and not having touched a car kit in more than 10 years, (currently dong a 1/25th scale proto of my REAL LIFE T-Bird to be) I would feel odd and out of place at an 18 year old zit-fest "Ricer" convention as I am into nostalgic and classic cars / rods.
no ' fence intended to the zit- faced crowd....
RICERS.... can though :P

OMG flame war ! lolz... kidding.... although good o'l American Lead Sleds (when placed in equal catagory) rawk !.

Basicly, You want a meet up,
Just don't expect a blockbuster turn out.... lest there is something special.

Try REAL car shows to see if any sponsors come forward to provide awards or anything..... Anything unique to a show is............. well Unique ! thats what makes Cars so cool.

I think you're going about it the wrong way, an entire model car show dedicated to AF won't work! The way i see it could work is 2 ways; either as a purely social gathering i.e. in the back room of some social club (hopefully not too far away from the bar!) or at someones house, similar to how the Singapore guys meet up. The second idea, which i prefer, would be to get a stand at one of the larger model car shows and use it to promote the AF forum. Whoever can make it could bring their work to display, perhaps their could be a couple of laptops showing the forum and how useful it can be and will allow people to register there and then.

I had thought about doing something similar to this at the UK model car show in September. I'll be having a trade stand there anyway so i could maybe use some space so that AF members can show their work. Just an idea at the moment though, may not happen?????????
