Unhappy Anti-lock brake problem

Hello,
I've been having a problem with the brakes on my 98 Grand Prix for several days and wanted to check and get some advice on what you thought it might be. (The brakes are fairly new on the front end..only have about 5,000 miles on them. The car has 93,000 miles on it.) Anyway, the anti- lock brakes make a grinding, 'ping' sound sometimes when stopping. Only once has the anti-lock brake light and the traction control light come on...but went out when the car was restarted. (I've never changed the rotors on the car.) Any idea what it could be? I haven't take it to the shop yet... Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Re: Anti-lock brake problem

Newer pads on old rotors (especially if you didn't have them resurfaced) is just asking for problems like squealing, pulsation, grinding, etc... What do the rear brakes look like? These cars wear out brakes pretty evenly front to rear, so they're not like the old days where you changed 2 sets of front brakes to every one set of rears.

Re: Anti-lock brake problem

So are just the brake pads fairly new? You should replace the rotors when you replace the pads especially with 93K miles. It will affect the ABS braking system. If the lights come on again get it scanned with an ABS capable scan tool.
