Question Dash warning lights coming on & very bad shaking car/sterinwheel when I brake 70km/h?

Hello,

Car Model Ponac Grand AM 2001

I have two questions that maybe someone can help me with.
1.) I just got both Wheel bearing hubs replaced the left one was replaced and then 2 months later the right weel bearing hub was replaced.
They were replaced due to 3 lights comming on no trac, service Vicel, and ABs lights. For the whole history The lights came on and I replaced the left weelbearing and the lights all went out, I drove through a large puddle 2 weeks after on the left side of the car the weel bearing replaced adn all the lights came back on. I drove the car for about another 2 months the lights started to come on random times until they were on all the time, and through those 2 months the front right wheelbearing hub started making a whole lot of noise. So I replaced the right bearing hub and all the lights went out but this time only for 2 days and now they are comming on again randomly, seems maybe on wet days or when I make a fast turn or a sharp turn seems to turn them on but sometimes just driving stright they will come on "no trac, service Vicel, and ABs lights. " Anyone might have any Ideas what might be causing this as both wheelbearings were replaced and that is usually the main cause of all 3 these lights comming on?

Question 2. WHen I got the right wheel bearing put on the guy told me I needed to get a set of break pads. I left the shop driving home and anytime I drive over 70km/h and press the brakes the car and stearing wheel SHakes so bad its kinda scarry. I thought It might have been ok need new brake pads, The next day I bought the new brake pads took it to the same shop and the guy put them on for me, I drove home on the old road 60km/h sp[eed limit and the new brakes seemed to be working great. The next day Driving into town I took the highway and again driving at any speed about above 70km/h and I press the breaks even a little bit to slow down the whole car shakes real bad the stearing wheel even shacks crazly a lot. Anyone have any Ideas what might be making the car shake so much when pressing the brakes over 70km/h and what parts would need.
Thank you all so much for your time any I deays at all or anyone else that experienced these problems I woud like to hear your input. I hope I made since If any other info is needed please let me know.

Re: Dash warning lights coming on & very bad shaking car/sterinwheel when I brake 70k

Sorry for the delayed reply! Your thread was posted in a section that was supposed to be closed by now...

Any how, #1, check the wires to the bearing/hubs, these tend to get damaged and if a wire is bear then water makes it trip the lights.

#2- shaking is probly warped rotor(s) and or bad pads.
Also If your lug nuts were torqued over 100 ft pounds, that can warp a rotor too.
Which will cause some bad shaking when braking hard. Lugs should be toqued to 100 ft lbs no more!

Re: Dash warning lights coming on & very bad shaking car/sterinwheel when I brake 70k

Hey,
Thanks for the info, The brakes are actually brand new and the rotors are less than one year old, the guy that put them on said the roters looked fine, also this shaking problem never started until the right wheel bearing hub was replaced, I noticed it that day, then I went and bought new brakes and the next day had them put on so this problem started right after the new right wheel hub bearing was installed and new brakes didnt fix it either, roters were also fine, Could have been the torque but liek I said the tire was put on after wheel bearing installed had shaking then next day brakes were installed still shaking when braking over 70km/h and over. I guess my main question is if not brakes or rotors what else may it be? and mainly do you think it would be very dangerous as long as everything is on all tight and no give?
Thanks in advance
Dana

Oh the Grand AM section is being closed now?

Re: Dash warning lights coming on & very bad shaking car/sterinwheel when I brake 70k

Only other things I can think of is a weak or broken spring , possibly a caliper bad, or the bearing(s) that was installed are defective.

If the bearing said "made in china" it is even more possible. Their quality is very inconsistant and junk IMO.

Oh and this section isnt closing!
Just the N body problem diagnosis.

Re: Dash warning lights coming on & very bad shaking car/sterinwheel when I brake 70k

I have a 1997 Grand Am SE 2 Door that had the same problem. The solution was actually a number of things for me. I too recently replaced my wheel hub and bearings witch helped a ton for the overall performance of my car. Also, another thing you may want to look into is if possibly one of your tires had a bulge in it. My rear left tire had a bulge in it which made it very shakey at high speeds, especially while breaking. Hope this helps.

Re: Dash warning lights coming on & very bad shaking car/sterinwheel when I brake 70k

Yeah Id agree a bad tire will cause some nasty shaking at highway speeds.

Also shaking when braking could be a warped rotor , even though they are new. This can happen if the lugs are OVER torqued.
Your lugs should not be any more then 100 ft lbs or it'll warp a rotor pretty quickly. Sometimes retorqing them will help.

ok thank you guys for all your options and help, I will check into all those things and let you know how I make out.
Just wanted to way though the shaking isn't while driving its only when breaking and if i do a hard break it doesn't seem to shake only slowing down slowly to medium. I know you said the rotor ill check that out.
Thanks again
