Transmission Problems

1999 Grand Prix Super Charge, 222,000 miles.

Need a oil change, took it to a chain store (stupid) they told me I needed the Transmission fluid needed change, I said I'll have my reg Mech do it!

Next day I have a jerk going down the road, when it was shift up (only up) not down. Took it to a Autozone they hooked up the plug in machine and it is giving a (fuel injector code)

Then the next day, car just stopped not die just stopped. I could turn it off and then back on it would go about 30-50 feet and then stop.

So trailered it home, regular mech changed transmission fuild, and filter will run now but still have a jerk.

I can shift it from 1,2,3 and then to drive when starting out, and the jerk not there, and seem like after a while I either get use to the jerk or it not so bad.

Am I looking at a new transmission??

Don't flame me, if this is a stupid question, I like my car, and hate to give it up, or do something bad to it. This sounded bad. Also my Mech is from the old school, he doesn't like my fuel injector car, he a great older mech, but he not real good on the newer ones, this makes him sound bad and he not I trust him, i just have never had a transmission that has done this, if it is the transmission. I thought they either worked or went out. He thinks it is the transmission, but would this give me a fuel injector code ???

Re: Transmission Problems

I'll bet you have a leaky fuel injector causing a missfire as driving.

Maybe a tune up including plugs/wires/fuel filter/air filter/and a bottle of fuel injector cleaner might work.

Re: Transmission Problems

I have put two bottle of Fuel injector stuff in and I have also made sure I get 91 percent gas.

Am I wrong to think if it was the transmission it would jerk when it is down shifting also?

Re: Transmission Problems

I am not sure becca. Does it drive any differently with or without performance shift on?

How about if you drive in "3" instead of "d", any difference?

Re: Transmission Problems

Ok not to sound dum, but is the performance shift when I shift it myself through 1.2.3 ??

If that is a performance shift, then yes, if I start out in 1 then work my way to 3 then I don't have the jerk. Also after I have drove about 40 minutes I don't notice it.

Also when the Transmission Fuild was changed, it was black and I know it should be red, I had not checked it for a long while.

I am putting new plugs in today, to see if that helpd the miss. I am bad i can't remember when i changed them last.

Becca

Thanks for everyones help..
