87' taurus fuel line removal/replacement

i'm working on a family members car once again. anyway one of the fuel lines is leaking from a pin hole close to the fitting on the fuel rail.

i've bought the tool to remove the line but can not get the spring out of the groove to get it off. any tricks?

also i found the fuel lines are discontinued as of 98'. any other place to get them? or have them made?

thanks. i'm stressed out. another time where i had to walk away or kick the car.

The line that goes into the fuel rail?

The spring is what the tool is suppose to release to allow the lines to seperate. Maybe you don't have the right tool?

Should be what you have right?

Re: 87' taurus fuel line removal/replacement

yeah i have the top tool set and i have a metal tool that pivots in the middle the spring just wont come out enough to pull the line enough. i can wiggle the line a little with the spring in place.

after i do get them separated can i removed the fitting and reuse it with a new line? i've found online only i can get oring and springs to replace the old ones.

i've never delt with this before. thanks

Is the portion of the fuel line with the pinhole leak a plastic line, metal line, or rubber line? There may be a custom hose shop in your area that can repair/rebuild the line using your current end.

You might try a few other release tools and try spinning the line around a bit to get it loose. You should be able to reuse the fitting, but certainly inspect the o-rings and the spring. These fuel lines are under pretty good pressure, so you don't want to "re-engineer" the hose with the idea it will be good enough.

The tool expands the spring which is the locking mechanism for the connection. The spring does not come out nor does the tool remove the spring. The spring can only be removed after the fitting is separated from the rail.
