Clutch Master Cylinder Question
Hey guys,
I'm looking at buying a '92 Tsi AWD which has had most of the major components r&r. Here's an excerpt from the ad: new transfer case, newly rebuilt transmission. Transfer case and transmission, clutch, whole 2nd gear assembly and slave cylinder have 35000 km remaining on the warrenty. paint is in fairly good condition, just replaced fuel filter and O2 sensor, cv axles have been replaced recently aswell, also has a new muffler that also has warrenty on it aswell, muffler is a straight through performance muffler that doesnt have a loud tingy sound and increases performance by about 6hp, car is pretty well stock, new irridium plugs and aftermarket performance wires As I'm looking for a car that hasn't been heavily modified, this car caught my interest. However, the seller told me that the car is very hard to shift into 2nd gear, especially on the downshift. He said it definately needs a new clutch m/c, but is still very driveable as is. If I buy the car, I'm looking at a 5 hour drive to bring it home, so I'd like to be reasonably sure it's not going to leave me stuck in 2nd gear. Bearing in mind the tranny work that's been done, would replacement of the m/c likely solve this issue? |

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder Question
I might be a little late here, but the master cylinder will not fix the problem if it's only difficult to shift in one gear. When the master cylinder kicks the bucket, it will effect all gears.

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder Question
That doesn't sound very healthy... Could be syncros for 2nd gear or possibly some other problem with the rebuilt transmission.
